Barn conversion with glass extension in North York Moors

Solarlux by Reveal Stand: C318

This glass extension on a converted barn in the North York Moors makes the most of the lovely views while also meeting national park building criteria.

The custom-made Solarlux Wintergarden offered the quality, aesthetics and versatility of design to keep both the homeowners and the local conservation officers happy. It was the perfect solution to the requirements of both the homeowners and the local conservation officers.

The homeowners got a lovely, light-filled space from which to enjoy panoramic views of the rolling hills and uninterrupted views of the stars during the evening.

The local planners and conservation officers, meanwhile, wanted to ensure that the extensions fulfilled the criteria that applies to building work in national parks. Their focus was on ensuring that the new structure did not impact adversely on the heritage, landscape and ecology of the area.

A glass extension can work really well in sensitive areas like the North York Moors because its transparent quality minimises the impact on its surroundings. In this project, the green of the aluminium frame was part of the planning requirement to ensure the extension blended in with its environment.

The bi-folds have an accessible threshold and open out onto a patio overlooking the surrounding countryside, while the front windows also look out over the rolling hills. Because of its location, the glass extension also needed to have a massive wind capacity.

Our team did us proud once again despite the challenges of working in such a hilly rural location which meant the Solarlux HGV was unable to access the site. As always, our focus on planning everything to a tee before delivery paid off.
