Michael Pretty Architects was established in 1989 with Michael as the sole practitioner. In later years the practice grew to four people and was based in Tadcaster for 20 years. Since 2021 the practice has been based in Hampsthwaite near Harrogate. It has a wide field of experience with leisure buildings, light industrial, housing, conversions and domestic extensions.
In recent times the practice has gained planning consent for the conversion of agricultural buildings to dwellings and many extensions to existing houses. It has had a high success rate in gaining planning consent throughout Yorkshire and beyond, including London.
The practice works with allied professionals such as structural engineers, land surveyors and planning consultants etc. It provides a personal service for clients using the standard appointment requirements of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
The practice can provide a flexible service to suit clients need from gaining planning consent only or providing a full service up to the works completion.The practice aim is to create well designed buildings that look good, work well for clients and provide an economic solution using the latest building techniques and green technology.
