Ninian MacQueen
Ninian MacQueen is an ARB registered, and RIBA chartered, architect as well as being father to three boys. The son of two artists himself, Ninian studied at the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow, before completing his ‘Part 3’ at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London. He worked for four Stirling Prize winners – including Richard Rogers, Norman Foster and AHMM architects – as well as smaller firms, before starting his own private practice: Borderland Studio.
He specialises in ‘the front end design’ of residential and commercial projects – pre planning and planning applications primarily – but also has significant experience of working with contractors on site. His work as an architect has covered many different scales and budgets. Everything from small garden rooms, extensions and single house refurbishments through to very large ‘mixed-use’ projects, such as the redevelopment of the former BBC Television Centre in London.
Many of the other schemes he has contributed to over the years, encompass projects from around the world including designs for super tall towers, city master plans, infrastructure projects, and others in countries such as India, Russia, China, Nigeria and Canada. Ninian has also written for, or worked with, the Architects Journal and BD Online. He has a passion for drawing and visualisation when used as a proper design tool, or to communicate ideas.
