Sally Walker – Native Architects
Sally has over 40 years’ experience in practice in the UK and overseas. Sally set up Native
Architects 28 years ago with the ambition to address the issues of climate change and
unconditionally embrace sustainable forms of architecture as the foundation to her
practice.
Sally specialises in working with historic structures to create sensitive, low carbon
solutions using natural and traditional materials to preserve their architectural heritage and
continued use. Sally joined the RIBA Register of Conservation Accredited Architects and
undertakes research at the University of York on indoor air quality and has been RIBA
Yorkshire Region judge for the Conservation and Sustainability architectural awards. Sally
is currently on the Advisory Board for the new School of Architecture at York University.
Sally’s residential projects in and around York have won awards highlighted by the 2019
York Design Award for Sustainability for a retrofit scheme to a1970s house in Aldwark
York and the re-ordering of Monkbridge House Hotel, built in 1864 offering elegant and
comfortable rooms for visitors to York, awarded The York Design Awards 2022 Small
Commercial Category for the conservation and re-design of this hotel.
